Welcome to Money Engineering!
I am Sam, the blogger behind this website.
Personal finance has been always been a passion of mine, a set of rules and guidelines that I have been following daily for the purpose of achieving my goal of FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early). As my library of personal finance, personal development, and lifestyle books grew, so did my list of rules and guidelines. It became cumbersome to keep track of everything worth remembering!
Working as an engineer, I have always had a preference for numbers, optimization, and organization, so the obvious conclusion was to write down everything I have learned along the way in a single, convenient location. What better way to do this than in the form of a blog?
With that said, here is what this website is all about.
Money Engineering, at a glance, is all about money. Money here, money there, money is where! Well, no.
Money is a means to an end.
That is all it is, and it allows us to create the space and freedom for everything that matters more. Money should not be a problem, but it is. The good news is that it is a solve-able one, and once money is no longer something people have to worry about, they can focus more on family, their passions, more gratifying experiences, or anything else that deserves their singular attention.
That is why I have created this blog.
This place is a collection of everything I know that involves personal finance and early retirement. So to everybody I know who asks me for financial advice, I will be pointing them in this direction, whether they are living paycheck-to-paycheck or in the top 1%.
My friends and family often come to me for tips on how to save or make money or to make better financial decisions in general, and it hurts to learn if they are in dire straits or if money is consuming their daily conscience.
My goal with this blog is to share everything I know about money so that my friends, family, and YOU can become more savvy financially. I want to pass on my knowledge so people I care about to be in the best position they can be in to do whatever they want.
What do I do?
Let me state clearly that I do not currently have great wealth, am currently not in the 1%, and am not a genius by any means. However, I make informed decisions and rely on facts and good habits.
I am merely an investor and saver, and my education and occupation as an electrical engineer has led me to follow an optimized lifestyle.
In 2015 I set my goal to be retired by age 35 in the year 2024. My current trajectory points to me meeting that goal by a healthy margin. As a matter of fact, I can retire at this very moment with a reasonable quality of life, but there are creature comforts I deem worth postponing declaring FIRE for.
If anyone was wondering, I have never had any winning lottery tickets, have only held regular 9-5 W-2 non-dotcom non-start-up jobs, and have no mystery uncles who left me massive inheritances.
Let me make clear to you that anyone can get to where I am. There are tons of people who already are or are better off, and I want to do my part to make that number go up. This blog will detail every step I have taken and every tool I have used to get to where I am today.
How does this blog work?
Going through my collection of information, it all boiled down to four major topics: how to think about money, how to make more money, how to save money, and how to grow your money you already have:
You are what you think. If you want to live a lifestyle and grow a mentality that will lead to a financially stable life, you need to reel in your mind and to address money as what it is: a tool.
Everyone needs to make and earn money to live. These are the tips and tricks to have you shore up your income so that you can give your money a proper chance to grow for you.
Save & Grow Money
Every dollar you make can either work for you or be burned in the trash. Money, in addition to being a tool, is a slave. Put that little green man to work for you and see the extreme reproductive capabilities of these creatures we call dollars.
This is a single collection of the very best tools you can use to make your journey towards financial stability less bumpy.
So that is Money Engineering in a nutshell. Keep reading and learning, and share your journey along the way with me!
